U.S. and U.K. reach a trade agreement, though talks on steel imports remain unresolved.

U.S. President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Monday that they had finalized a trade agreement aimed at significantly reducing tariffs on British auto and aerospace imports. However, negotiations over steel production remain ongoing.

The two leaders made the announcement during a press conference at the G7 summit in the Canadian Rockies. Trump held up the signed documents, calling it a long-anticipated breakthrough — though the moment briefly turned awkward when he mistakenly referenced the European Union instead of the United Kingdom.

Despite the mix-up, Trump praised the deal as “fair” and economically beneficial, predicting it would generate “a lot of jobs, a lot of income.”

Starmer echoed the sentiment, calling it “a very good day” for both nations and a strong indicator of mutual cooperation.
