Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard and actor-director Guillaume Canet have announced their separation after 18 years together and two children, bringing an end to one of French cinema’s most prominent partnerships.
Cotillard, 49, earned international acclaim — and an Academy Award in 2008 — for her portrayal of Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose. She later starred alongside Brad Pitt in Allied and Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception, solidifying her global profile.
Canet, 52, is known for his work both in front of and behind the camera, including a role in The Beach with DiCaprio. He and Cotillard first appeared together in the 2003 romantic drama Love Me If You Dare, which marked a box-office breakthrough in France. The couple began dating in 2007.
Their separation was shared in a statement to Agence France-Presse, aimed at avoiding “speculation, rumors, and risky interpretations.” The statement cited a mutual and amicable decision, though no specific reason was given.
Representatives for both Cotillard and Canet in France did not respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press.
