Trump is anticipated to approve his major tax and spending cut legislation during the White House’s July 4th picnic event.

President Donald Trump is set to sign into law his sweeping package of tax cuts and reduced government spending on Friday, following a strong push that secured near-unified Republican backing in Congress. The legislation marks a major domestic achievement that could define his legacy heading into a potential second term.

Defying expectations, Trump succeeded in clinching a high-stakes legislative win just in time for the Fourth of July. The bill-signing is scheduled to take place during the White House’s Independence Day picnic, where fighter jets and stealth bombers will soar overhead in celebration.

Trump described the measure as transformative, saying it will launch the nation forward like a rocket and bring tremendous benefits. But Democrats have strongly criticized the plan, calling it a boon for the wealthy that jeopardizes the financial security and basic needs of low-income Americans.

“This is a crime scene,” said House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York during a marathon speech that delayed the vote by more than eight hours. “It targets the health, safety, and well-being of the American people.”
