The Justice Department dismissed at least three prosecutors on Friday who were involved in criminal cases related to the January 6 Capitol riot, marking the latest instance of the Trump administration removing officials tied to the sweeping investigation, according to two individuals familiar with the situation.
Among those let go were two supervisory attorneys overseeing the Jan. 6 cases in the Washington U.S. Attorney’s Office and a trial-level prosecutor who handled Capitol riot charges, the sources said. They requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the personnel decisions.
One of the prosecutors received a termination letter signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, which cited no specific reason for the firing. The letter, viewed by The Associated Press, referenced only “Article II of the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States,” and said the dismissal was effective immediately.
