Anderson’s dominant 3-hit performance in the CWS finals opener leads LSU to victory, leaving them just one win from the championship.

In his final outing for LSU, Kade Anderson delivered a pitching gem Saturday night, putting the Tigers one win away from their second national title in three years.

Anderson threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 in a 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina in Game 1 of the College World Series finals — his second straight dominant showing in Omaha.

“That’s the guy we’ve seen all year,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson. “He’s the best pitcher in the nation, and he proved it again tonight. This is what he’s done every game one of the season — now the whole country got to see it.”

The Chanticleers (56-12), who came in riding a 26-game win streak, suffered their first loss in nearly a month. They now face a must-win situation on Sunday to force a decisive Game 3 on Monday.

LSU (52-15) capitalized early, with Steven Milam’s RBI single in the first inning providing the game’s only run — a lead Anderson protected with increasing dominance as the night went on against a Coastal Carolina offense that had previously cruised through the CWS with a 24-9 scoring edge.
