Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Monday he’s uncertain how long running back James Cook’s contract dispute will continue, after Cook skipped practice for the second consecutive day.
Cook briefly appeared on the practice field wearing team gear but left before the session began, entering a portable restroom and then exiting through the trainer’s tent. He did not return for at least the first hour of practice.
This marks Cook’s second straight absence, signaling an escalation in his push for a contract extension ahead of the final year of his rookie deal. On Sunday, he remained on the sidelines in a sweatsuit after working out on a stationary bike.
A second-round pick in 2022, Cook tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns last season as the Bills’ lead back.
By skipping practices, Cook risks facing team fines, with Buffalo set to kick off its preseason against the New York Giants on Saturday.
