Is Father’s Day finally starting to get a bit more recognition as a holiday?
You wouldn’t think so by looking at some corners of social media. On TikTok and X, rapper Plies—known for hits like “Shawty” and “I’m So Hood” with T-Pain and DJ Khaled—posted a profanity-laced rant comparing Father’s Day to Groundhog Day in terms of importance, suggesting it might as well be scrapped altogether.
A Reddit user echoed the sentiment, posting, “The disrespect to Father’s Day is real,” and joking that while corporations don’t seem to care about dads, the least they could offer is “some free donuts or chicken strips.”
But are dads really being ignored? Shake Shack is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on Double ShackBurgers in stores and on its app through Monday. Wendy’s is doing a similar BOGO offer on premium sandwiches via its app on Sunday. And Burger King is handing out free Whoppers with a purchase through its app.
