Lando Norris edges out McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri to claim victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

In Formula 1, victory isn’t always about pure speed—sometimes, it’s about resilience and race-day tactics.

Lando Norris showcased both on Sunday, fending off a determined challenge from McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri to win a nail-biting Hungarian Grand Prix and tighten the title race.

With overtaking notoriously difficult at the Hungaroring, Norris had to dig deep as Piastri closed in during the final laps. The win didn’t come easy—but it came just in time.

Norris marked McLaren’s milestone 200th Formula 1 victory with a jubilant double fist pump atop his car, having cut Piastri’s lead in the standings from 16 points to just nine with a margin of victory under one second.

“I’m dead. It was tough, it was tough,” Norris admitted. “That last stint with Oscar catching—I was pushing flat out.”

The result marked McLaren’s fourth consecutive 1-2 finish, with Norris taking three of them and shifting the championship momentum in his favor ahead of the upcoming four-week summer break.
