Apple TV+ took center stage at the Emmy nominations Tuesday, with “Severance” earning a standout 27 nods to lead all series, and “The Studio” dominating the comedy field with 23.
No other drama came close to matching the buzz and critical praise generated by the second season of the dark workplace saga “Severance.” The show scored major recognition for stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower, who were nominated for portraying their characters’ split “innie” and “outie” personas. Tramell Tillman earned a supporting nomination for his role as their enigmatic supervisor, and Ben Stiller received a directing nod.
In the comedy race, Apple’s behind-the-scenes satire “The Studio” exceeded expectations, outpacing long-running favorites like “Hacks” (14 nominations) and “The Bear” (13). Co-creator Seth Rogen picked up three individual nominations — for acting, writing, and directing — while the show’s high-profile guest stars, including Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, and Zoë Kravitz, brought in additional honors.
Meanwhile, HBO’s “The Penguin,” a gritty spin-off from the “Batman” universe, made a strong showing in the limited series category with 24 nominations, including lead acting nods for Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
