The United States and China unveil a new trade agreement — once again. Here’s what it signifies.

The United States and China have once again reached an agreement aimed at easing trade tensions, though specifics remain limited and key disputes between the two largest economies remain unresolved.

President Donald Trump announced late Thursday that a deal with China had been signed “the other day.” China’s Commerce Ministry confirmed on Friday that an agreement had been made but provided few details.

Since returning to office, Trump’s trade policy has been marked by sudden changes and a lack of transparency, as he seeks to reshape a global trading system he views as unfavorable to the U.S. and its workers.

The ongoing trade conflict with China has demonstrated the significant economic damage both countries can inflict on one another. Meanwhile, Trump is under pressure to secure agreements with other major trading partners before a July 8 deadline.
